What is IPL?

Intense pulsed light, or IPL, is a skin rejuvenation procedure in which pulsed light energy is directed into the skin to reduce imperfections. This revolutionary aesthetics treatment offers the following benefits:

  • Reduced fine lines and wrinkles
  • Fewer age spots
  • Body hair reduction
  • Improvements in sun-damaged skin
  • Fewer freckles
  • Improvements in rosacea
  • Reduced appearance of birthmarks
  • Varicose vein reduction
  • Smaller pore sizes

After IPL therapy, your skin is refreshed, rejuvenated, smoother, and more evenly toned.

How does IPL work?

IPL treatment works by emitting light energy into your skin, where it penetrates to the second skin layer.

Pigment cells absorb the energy, convert it to heat, and destroy unwanted skin pigment. The spots come to the surface of your skin and can eventually be brushed off to reveal your natural, gorgeous skin below.

What should I expect during the procedure?

After examining your skin and reviewing your medical history, your practitioner lets you know if you’re a good candidate for IPL treatment.

During the procedure, your aesthetics specialist cleans your skin and rubs a cooling gel on it to enhance comfort. You wear special glasses to protect your eyes from the light.

Your provider applies light pulses to your skin using an IPL device. You might feel a sensation similar to that of rubber bands snapping against your skin. The session lasts about 20-30 minutes depending on the areas being treated.

What happens after IPL treatment?

There’s no downtime following treatment; you can resume everyday activities right away. There may be some redness and slight irritation, but these will go away shortly after your appointment. Overall, the treatment is safe when administered correctly by a professional.

Your provider might recommend a series of 3-6 treatments to help you achieve desirable skin rejuvenation results. Hair removal treatment might require additional sessions.

In addition, protect your skin from the sun usingsunscreen with a sun protection factor, or SPF, of 30 or higher and use a daily moisturizer.

Don’t let age spots or other signs of sun damage make you feel less than beautiful. If you’re self-conscious about discoloration or spots, an IPL treatment can reduce their appearance and allow your confidence to return.
