Facial Q & A

Facials

What happens during a facial?

A facial is an aesthetic treatment that rejuvenates your skin using various techniques based on your skin type and preferences. Traditional facials often consist of:

  • Cleansing your skin
  • Exfoliation
  • Extraction
  • A mask and other skin care products
  • Moisturizing

Your provider first cleans your skin using a facial cleanser, then applies a gentle steam to your face to open pores.

Depending on your preference and skin type, your provider may then extract blackheads from clogged pores. They exfoliate your skin to remove dead skin cells and use quality Biopelle® skin care products to refresh and moisturize the skin on your face and neck.

What are the benefits of facials?

After a facial, you might notice the following beauty benefits:

  • Smoother skin
  • Fewer clogged pores
  • Healthier-looking skin
  • Younger-looking skin
  • New tissue generation
  • Enhanced collagen production
  • A refreshed, revitalized look

After reviewing your skin’s health, your The Alternative Touch Wellness specialist helps you determine what type of facial works best for your specific goals, needs, and budget.

Which treatments might I receive?

Depending on your aesthetic goals, your practitioner might recommend one or more of the following treatments during or in addition to your facial:

Dermaplaning

Dermaplaning is a type of exfoliation procedure. Your aesthetic specialist uses a sterile surgical scalpel to remove the top layer of dead skin cells and peach fuzz.

Chemical peel

Chemical peels consist of salicylic acid or another chemical solution that removes the top skin layers to rejuvenate skin that’s spotted, scarred, wrinkled, or aged. Chemical peels stimulate new skin cell growth to restore a youthful appearance.

Microneedling with PRP

During microneedling, your provider uses tiny needles to apply controlled injury to your skin and enhance collagen and elastin production. They may apply a medical-grade serum to the skin or platelet-rich plasma (PRP) sourced from your own blood.

Radiofrequency (RF) microneedling

Your practitioner uses tiny needles to puncture your skin and apply radiofrequency energy to it, causing constriction and tightening of the skin, as well as the stimulation of collagen and elastin. RF microneedling helps with skin tightening and scar reduction.

Microdermabrasion

During microdermabrasion, your provider uses a mildly abrasive instrument or skin care product to gently sand skin and remove its outer layer to exfoliate and rejuvenate it.

Are facials safe?

Facials are generally very safe. Your specialist at The Alternative Touch Wellness chooses which facial treatment and products work best for your skin type and complexion, which minimizes your risk of having a negative reaction.

You might experience mild redness or irritation following a facial, but this is temporary and will diminish quickly. You won’t need to schedule any downtime after your facial.

Your provider may recommend that you receive facials every 4-6 weeks for optimal, long-lasting results. You can also get a single facial to relieve stress or prepare your face for a special event.
